Infants-Roly Polies

Teacher/Child Ratio 1:4
Our Roly Polies classroom is a place that offers nurture and love to your infant through intentional interactions. The environment begins to introduce daily routines in new and interesting ways that allow your child to explore and develop a healthy sense of trust in the people that are a part of their lives. Stroller rides and the outdoor infant play area are a part of our weekly activities, allowing your infant to enjoy getting outside and experience the different weather and environments the pacific northwest has to offer.

Monthly visits from our consulting nurse help to guide the appropriate health and safety needs per individual infant as they’re developing. Our teacher plans out activities for each week that are designed to help each child reach individual and unique goals through play and the use of their senses.  These activities are displayed on a lesson plan on a parent communication board outside of the classroom.

Some of the skills we work on beyond the emotional development include the slow introduction and ability to eat solid foods and drink from a sippy cup without assistance. We also begin to build muscle strength to assist with their ability to move effectively on their own by crawling, scooting, and/ or walking. All these things help them prepare to play and learn in the next classroom, the Caterpillars!

Wee Care Academy uses the Lifecubby family app (our digital portfolio system) to track your child’s development and update you on daily activities such as diapers, bottles and food intake, and nap times. Weekly assessments are sent to share the exciting developments happening with your child and the fun activities they’re participating in. Daily classroom observations and pictures are shared to help you connect with your child and extend their learning from school to home.

Younger Toddlers- Caterpillars

Teacher/Child Ratio 2:10

Our low teacher to child ratio (2:10 vs 2:14) allows the Caterpillar classroom to be a fun and engaging environment with more one-on-one intentional interactions. This classroom supports the exciting combination of the beginnings of walking and climbing with learning new words and ways to communicate their needs.  Building blocks, climbing, painting, cooking projects, reading with the teachers and more; this classroom is the perfect way to begin exploring their ideas and playing near peers.

Our teachers use emergent curriculum to carefully plan interesting and fun activities to help introduce new things and build skills needed to become more autonomous and interact with peers in the next classroom. The introduction of more and more sensory experiences allows the children to touch, smell, see, hear, and taste things that are new and stimulating to them.  These activities are displayed on a lesson plan on the parent communication board outside of the classroom.

Some of the skills we work on are: following 1-step directions, beginning to understand classroom routines, starting to communicate with sign language or verbally, (words like: help please, all done, more please, and no thank you) building self- help skills, (examples are: taking of socks and shoes, putting on coat, walking into school on their own, and washing hands with assistance) and the beginning of emotional recognition and regulation through emotion coaching. All of these skills help them be more successful as they move on to our next classroom, the Ladybugs!

Older Toddlers - Ladybugs

Teacher/Child Ratio 2:12

Our Ladybug classroom is an enjoyable explosion of words and playing with friends.  This class is full of hands-on, sensory driven experiences that give the children new and exciting ways to view familiar and unfamiliar things in their lives. The classroom environment gives the children freedom to move around their space and play with materials that they are curious about.

The teachers work to plan activities using emergent curriculum that help build social and self-help skills in fun and engaging ways that help prepare them for our preschool classroom, The Fireflies! Some specific skills we work on are: using their words to get help, waiting for and asking for a turn, following 1-2 step instructions, using a spoon and cup during meal times,  mastering potty training, dressing themselves, beginning to recognize shapes and colors, transitioning from parallel to cooperative play, and beginning to regulate emotions through continued emotion coaching.

Preschool - Fireflies

Teacher/Child Ratio 2:16

Our Firefly classroom is a spunky and energetic environment, perfect for play and imagination. This classroom is organized into play areas like blocks and building, art, sensory, manipulative, dramatic play, and quiet reading. This makes it optimal for the children to plan what they want to do and explore based on their emerging interests, along with a low teacher to child ratio (2:16 vs. 2:20) to allow for more small group activities and emotion coaching

The teachers use emergent curriculum to create intentional lessons and activities that are fun and help support developing skills to prepare the children for our pre-K classroom, The Butterflies. Some of the skills we work on with our Firefly class are: following classroom rules and routines with some reminders, practice walking in line while keeping our bodies to ourselves, cleaning up after play, following 3- step directions, being able to wait for their turn, advancing self-help skills,  problem solve with assistance from teachers, and continued support with emotional regulation.

The Preschool classroom uses the Learning Without Tears program to introduce  beginning literacy, pre-writing, and number concepts in a child friendly, age appropriate way.

Pre-Kindergarten - Butterflies

Teacher/Child Ratio 2:20

Our Pre-Kindergarten classroom builds social awareness, self-regulation, and Kindergarten readiness skills in a child-focused, play- based way. This allows the children to build skills while interacting in ways that are interesting and meaningful to them.

Some skills we are developing in our pre-K classroom are: understanding and following classroom rules, identifying capital letters, identifying numbers 1-10, identifying and writing their name, be able to self-soothe during emotional situations, and problem solving skills. Our Pre-K students are getting ready for a larger environment full of new peer interactions and this classroom helps cultivate a strong sense of self and social confidence so they are comfortable in their new Kindergarten space. Please click here for more information about Kindergarten readiness.

Weekly lesson plans are posted on the parent board to help guide families in interacting with the classroom happenings and support their children’s ideas. We also send out weekly “homework” packets designed to be fun and introduce the concept of homework while building academics. But, don’t worry, they do not need to be returned!

Our Pre-K classroom uses the Learning Without Tears program as a guideline for language and literacy development as well as the beginning of numbers and math concepts, continuing and enhancing the LWT lessons started in the Firefly classroom.
