• Erica – Director

How long have you been working with children?

My first real job my senior year in high school was working at a child care center a few hours after school in the afternoons. Since then I have had the opportunity to work with many children and families for the last 12 years!

Why do you work with children?

Children always bring something new everyday. Just when I think I have something or someone figured out, they surprise me. Each child teaches me new things about myself and different ways to teach other children.

What is your strength as a Director?

I want to help build a community where families, children, and staff have a part in supporting each other. Where all families are welcome and know that this is their community just as much as it is the staff’s. I have seen amazing accomplishments when we all work together. These are the most formative years children have, and for them to have already experienced and to have seen the results of a highly cooperative, functioning community is so encouraging.

What is your favorite activity/topic to share with children?

I really enjoy doing circle times. There are some great books out there that were created to be read aloud. I love creating different voice for each character. Art is also one of my own loves because it is so freeing and unique, so sharing that with the children and letting them be creative in their own way is so rewarding.

    What are your hobbies/interests?

I love reading. I NEVER go anywhere without a book in my purse. I am also a sun worshiper so I try to spend as much time as possible outside, either camping or hanging out at the beach or by the pool. I also enjoy wine tasting and exploring and expand my food horizons. The Pacific Northwest has some of the best and unique foods and wines in the world. I occasionally make jewelry when it suits my fancy and I have recently gotten into mosaics. I am still working on my first piece; I just keep working on it when I get the urge.

    What is your favorite color?

I love most colors, except for brown. I love decorating in yellows, oranges, and reds, but wear a lot of blue, teals, greens, and purples, especially on my toes.

What is your favorite beverage from Starbucks/Tully’s?

On sunny days, I crave a Venti iced black tea with half sweet. On those cold, wet days, I love tall soy chai tea or an Earl Grey latte with soy.
